When Dana and I first started working together, back in 2006, at the Indiana University Foundation and later Franklin College, we discovered something important: our skills, styles, and energy complemented each other. That spark of cooperation has carried us through countless projects, and today it’s fueling everything we do at DSC Consulting.
Of course, cooperation doesn’t stop with the two of us. At DSC, we are partnering with website designers, graphic designers, photographers, peers in the consulting industry, mentors, former colleagues, friends, and clients. Every single one of these collaborations has amplified our reach and strengthened our work.
There’s a reason people say, “Teamwork makes the dream work” or “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Bob Proctor put it best: “Cooperation is always more powerful than competition.” We’ve seen that play out time and again in business.
Why Cooperation Matters in Business
Starting and growing a business can feel like climbing a mountain. Cooperation makes the climb not only easier but also more rewarding.
Here’s why:
• Shared resources: When we combine our skills, we avoid doubling efforts, making things smoother and more efficient.
• Fresh ideas from fresh angles: Different perspectives don’t just add variety, they spark the kind of creativity and problem-solving you can’t get alone.
• Building trust: Working together builds trust, connection, and belonging.
• Momentum that multiplies: Collaboration stretches our reach, saves time and money, and helps progress move faster and smarter.
How It Looks at DSC
For us, internal collaboration doesn’t involve departments or task forces; it’s just the two of us, working side by side. Over the years, we’ve learned to play to each other’s strengths. Sometimes we swap roles, sometimes we overlap, but always with the same goal in mind: helping our clients move forward with clarity and confidence.
That kind of partnership doesn’t just happen. It takes open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to lean on each other when one of us is juggling more than usual. We’ve seen how even on the smallest scale, collaboration creates momentum.
Whether your business is two people or two hundred, internal collaboration matters; it’s not about size, it’s about alignment. When everyone is clear on roles and rowing in the same direction, cooperation becomes a powerful force.
Cooperation in Action
At DSC, cooperation isn’t just a value; it’s our operating system. From teaming up with creative partners to aligning with community organizations, we’ve experienced how collaboration can expand possibilities, accelerate progress, and make the work itself more fulfilling.
Competition may create a spark, but cooperation builds staying power. From our first days of working together in 2006 to building DSC today, one truth has remained constant: when we link arms and climb together, we all rise higher.
